Tick tock

For a Few Dollars More (1965) by Sergio Leone

Time is up for one of them..

-

Birinin ölüm vakti geldi..

*: It's a great honor to finally have master Leone on this blog. Thanks to Özer Oker for submitting this frame (over a year ago, my bad for putting it up this late).

What Killed the Cat?

Rosemary's Baby (1968) by Roman Planski

Though a pedophile, Polanski is a true master of the art. The curiosity build-up in this frame is so huge that you just want to tilt your head to the right and see what's going on behind the door. Outstanding visual storytelling.
"Early in the film … Ruth Gordon’s character knocks on a door, and Rosemary (Mia Farrow) opens it just a crack. They exchange a few words until Farrow lets Gordon in to use the bedroom telephone.
Fraker framed the shot from Rosemary’s perspective, in the living room looking through an open doorway at the stranger sitting on her bed. “Roman looked through the viewfinder and said, ‘no, no, Billy. Move to the left,’” recalls Fraker. “I moved to the left until all I could see were her feet hanging over the edge of the bed. I thought Roman was crazy until I saw Rosemary’s Baby in a theater, and watched some 400 people in the audience leaning to the right as though they were trying to look around the door jamb to see what she was doing.“* -  William Fraker (Cinematographer of Rosemary's Baby)

City of God

Cidade de Deus (2002) by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund
A frame that needs no description. Lost children of the city of god. Later on in real life, they all became gang members. Just as was told, justice will unfold..

-
Tanım gerektirmeyen bir kare. Tanrı kentin kayıp çocukları. Gerçek hayatta sonradan hepsi birer çete üyesi oldu. Beklendiği gibi..
*

Please notice the sky scrapers at the background, they tell the main story. / Arka plandaki gökdelenlere lütfen dikkat, gerçek hikâyeyi onlar anlatıyor.

Do it Antonio!

Ladri di biciclette (Bicycle Thieves) (1948) by Vittorio De Sica
I can't, and never will be able to, forget the first time I saw this frame. It was the first time I felt this much emotion during a movie and I wasn't event at the theater, just a dude at home in front of a computer screen.. I yelled.
"Do it Antonio! It's your right! You're not the one to be blamed! Do it! Do it for Bruno!"
The dilemma Antonio goes through during this scene is so heart wrenching.. When you see Bruno's tears.. I can't even write properly about this scene.. Pure cinema. Nothing else.
I have never felt anything even remotely close to this experience. This is why I think that Ladri di biciclette is one of the (if not the) greatest ever filmed.

And who can ever forget Bruno? The sweetest kid ever, after The Kid himself. / Ve Bruno'yu kim unutabilir? The Kid'in kendisinden sonraki en tatlı çocuk.

the rain never stops / yağmur hiç durmaz

Narc (2002) by Joe Carnahan
The opening scene of the masterfully shot Narc. A murder is taking place. The only thing we know for sure, is that it's raining, which is the only thing in focus. The whole movie is about this frame, is about getting everything else in focus. A single frame to be resolved.

Ustaca çekilmiş Narc filminin açılışı. Bir cinayet işlenmekte. Kesin olarak bildiğimiz tek şey o an yağmur yağdığı. Yağmur, net olan tek şey. Tüm film bu kareyle ilgili, bu karede geriye kalan her şeyi netleştirmekle ilgili. Çözülmesi gereken tek kare.
