-

What Killed the Cat?

Rosemary's Baby (1968) by Roman Planski

Though a pedophile, Polanski is a true master of the art. The curiosity build-up in this frame is so huge that you just want to tilt your head to the right and see what's going on behind the door. Outstanding visual storytelling.
"Early in the film … Ruth Gordon’s character knocks on a door, and Rosemary (Mia Farrow) opens it just a crack. They exchange a few words until Farrow lets Gordon in to use the bedroom telephone.
Fraker framed the shot from Rosemary’s perspective, in the living room looking through an open doorway at the stranger sitting on her bed. “Roman looked through the viewfinder and said, ‘no, no, Billy. Move to the left,’” recalls Fraker. “I moved to the left until all I could see were her feet hanging over the edge of the bed. I thought Roman was crazy until I saw Rosemary’s Baby in a theater, and watched some 400 people in the audience leaning to the right as though they were trying to look around the door jamb to see what she was doing.“* -  William Fraker (Cinematographer of Rosemary's Baby)
-

If a tree falls in a forest..

Serpico (1973) by Sidney Lumet

Stranger within

Fight Club (1999) by David Fincher
We are so different from, so distant from, so out of touch with the person that we want to be that we don't even recognize them when me meet. A state of mind that kills the soul.

Wish you were here..

Away We Go (2009) by Sam Mendes
I don't know why, but this frame reminds me of Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. Maybe because of the two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl? Two lost souls, seeking light, purpose and guidance. A flicker from a candle, showing them the way?
You Were Here'ı hatırlatıyor.

the rain never stops / yağmur hiç durmaz

Narc (2002) by Joe Carnahan
The opening scene of the masterfully shot Narc. A murder is taking place. The only thing we know for sure, is that it's raining, which is the only thing in focus. The whole movie is about this frame, is about getting everything else in focus. A single frame to be resolved.

Ustaca çekilmiş Narc filminin açılışı. Bir cinayet işlenmekte. Kesin olarak bildiğimiz tek şey o an yağmur yağdığı. Yağmur, net olan tek şey. Tüm film bu kareyle ilgili, bu karede geriye kalan her şeyi netleştirmekle ilgili. Çözülmesi gereken tek kare.
